The "Green Giant" arborvitae (Thuja plicata x standishii 'Green Giant') is a fast-growing, pyramidal evergreen tree, popular for its dense, dark green foliage and use as a privacy screen, hedge, or windbreak. Green Giant is one of the fastest growing of all conifers. This very rare western red cedar will put on 3 to 5 feet of growth per year.

We chose to plant these lovely trees Fall of 2023. We planted 10 Arborvitae on each side of our yard to create a private space for our pool. Their lush green leaves not only enhance the beauty of our yard but also block the view from neighbors. This way we can enjoy our time by the pool without feeling exposed. The trees add a natural charm and make the area feel more inviting. Overall they serve both aesthetic and practical purposes in our outdoor space.

How to Care for Giant Green Arborvitae:
Sunlight: Green Giant arborvitae thrive in full sun to partial shade, receiving at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily.
Soil: They prefer well-drained soil, slightly acidic to neutral (pH 6.0 to 7.0).
Mulch: Apply a layer of mulch (2-3 inches) around the base to retain moisture and regulate soil temperature.
Watering:
Regular Watering: Water regularly, especially during the first year after planting and during dry periods.
Fall Watering: Ensure adequate watering in the fall to prepare the trees for winter.
Watering After Fertilizing: Water thoroughly after applying fertilizer to help the nutrients reach the roots.
Pruning:
Minimal Pruning: Green Giant arborvitae are low-maintenance and typically don't require pruning.
Aesthetic Pruning: Prune only for aesthetic reasons, such as removing broken branches or irregular growth.
Timing: Prune in late winter or early spring before new growth begins.
Fertilizing:
Fertilize in early spring, before new growth starts, with a balanced fertilize. I have linked the fertilizer that I use below.

Winter Care:
Mulch: Mulch helps insulate the roots and retain moisture during winter.
Fall Watering: Ensure adequate watering in the fall to prepare the trees for winter.
As one of the fastest-growing trees for privacy, the Thuja Green Giant can grow up to 60 feet tall under the right conditions. This provides optimal privacy coverage for any home or garden. Aside from providing privacy, this amazing arborvitae inherently has the ability to block wind and snow drifts.
